Downey mildew is a major disease of grapes throughout the eastern United States. The fungus causes direct yield losses by rotting inflorescences, clusters and shoots. Description: Wet-weather fungus attacks both the leaves and fruit. Small yellow spots initially develop on the upper surface of the leaf. If you flip the leaf over, you will find a fluffy white growth on the surface. This should not be confused with powdery mildew that causes a dusty white growth on the upper leaf surface.
